Lakshmi + Emily: Online Elopement During COVID-19 Quarantine

Covid-19 has thrown us all for a loop, especially in the wedding world. We’re all scrambling to reschedule events and keep up with the latest guidelines and regulations, which is so difficult when you’re trying to plan for an event that is weeks or even months away. We’re rolling with the punches and finding innovative ways to work with our clients and stay connected while staying home.

Emily & Lakshmi reached out before quarantine truly started, to set up a time for engagement photos and plan for their courthouse marriage. They always knew that they wanted to elope, but when everything (including the courthouse) in Washington DC began to shut down and stay at home orders were passed, they had to find a different way to make it happen.

DC Courts held an online ceremony for them, which a few special folx watching along from their own homes. Then we took photos around their apartment, me directing them where to stand and where to put their phone, all while using FaceTime. I absolutely loved getting to photograph this at home wedding, it was cozy and beautiful and reminded me that it didn’t matter what equipment or gear I was using, the important thing was being able to document a moment in time that these two could look back on for the rest of their lives.
