MC & Jonathan // The Best of Richmond - Portrait Session

While working on MC & Jonathan's portraits, I couldn't stop smiling. My cheeks and face hurt by the time I was done. These two are so incredibly in love, and happy together, and it truly shows. They found out just a few days before our session that they would be selling their house and moving to Texas, leaving this city that they love so dearly behind. Jonathan is now in Texas, while MC settles up everything here. I hope these pictures bring smiles to their faces, and help them feel closer and connected, until they can physically be together again.

This past weekend had left me an utter mess, with a vast sense of hopelessness. Sitting at my desk, trying to focus on work, and not look at my phone to get the latest update on the Orlando attack was nearly impossible. These portraits helped to get me through that, and reminded me that THIS is why I'm a photographer. Being there for the queer community, my community, and helping to create memories that will be cherished by couples and their families for years to come is incredibly humbling, important, and fills my heart with joy.

Puerto Rico // Travel

I love to travel. I love to photograph all the adventures I embark upon while exploring new places. Until this trip, I hated my options for making this happen.

Carrying around a gigantic camera and lens (while they produce incredible quality photos) isn't fun. During a wedding I'm used to this, its part of the job and obviously needed. When I'm traveling and just wanting to have fun it is a nuisance. iPhone photos are great, but other than sharing online, there's not much else you can do with those. So I finally bought a small mirrorless Fuji, the x100t to be exact, and I am in love with photographing my travels once again. It's brought back that same intrigue and giddiness I felt shooting film with my Pentax k1000 when I was just a kid. It's a beautiful feeling.

I got to explore the beautiful little island of Puerto Rico with my sweetheart and her childhood best friend Helen and her partner Shawn (both who I met for the first time at the airport, and they now hold a very dear place in my heart). We had such a wonderful time, and I can't wait to go back and explore even more.

Alex & Cory // Richmond VA Engagement Portraits

I had such a fun time running around Belle Isle with this adorable couple. Alex seriously has the best smile ever, and I was so happy that these two kept each other laughing the entire time. I'm learning to become a morning person, because the quality of light at these sunrise sessions is bananas.  I can't wait to photograph Alex & Cory's wedding day!
